Chef Posted November 9, 2022 Posted November 9, 2022 Since we have some NJ influence here I figure I’ll get a question answered. NJ seems to have a 6 day “fire arms” season. What firearms exactly can I hunt with during this season? Can I use my 30/30? I may have secured some access out by hackettstown Also from the NY perspective are we fortunate or is it a detriment that we have such a long gun season compared to our neighbors Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Chef Posted November 9, 2022 Author Posted November 9, 2022 No rifles for deer in NJ. So firearms would be shotgun and muzzloader ?Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Rusty 1
Bucksnbows Posted November 9, 2022 Posted November 9, 2022 Shotguns, muzzleloaders or archery gear can all be used. Slug guns must have a scope or adjustable sights. NJ allows us to “shoot down” with weapon type, so we can bow hunt our gun season and use our gun tags. I’m thinking of working to convince our Division of Fish & Wildlife to consider allowing us to use straightwalled cartridges like other densely populated states allow. Better accuracy and less recoil. Slug guns rattle your teeth. "A sinking fly is closer to Hell" - Anonymous https://www.troutscapes.com https://nativefishcoalition.org/national-board
Bucksnbows Posted November 9, 2022 Posted November 9, 2022 @Chef let me know if you’re down this way. Hackettstown is the town west of me. I can help steer you to whatever you might need. My friend who hunts in NH was allowed to use straight walled this year and will thrilled. I guess it will be muzzle loader for me as I don’t own a slug gun Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Bucksnbows 1

I may even try baiting just to see what it’s like Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

And I’m buying the beer. Check out Czigmeister brewery and Man Skirt brewery. Both in Hackettstown. A lot of NY has recently converted from shotgun only to allowing rifle and accidentally shootings have decreased in those areas allowing rifles. I’m sure if you look hard enough you can find enough studies and info to back your case up. I just recently worked with a few friends to try and change a law in NY. It’s a lengthy process and required a lot of research and the ability to write up a resolution in a legal like manor but now our resolution is headed to the state legislature. If it goes through and we get the law changed it will feel so rewarding. So I encourage you to do it. I started with talking to our local sportsmen’s federation and went from there. I’m sure NJ is totally different in process but if you want I could walk you though the steps we had to go through.
Next Time Posted November 9, 2022 Posted November 9, 2022 Doesn’t nj require a plug also for shotgun no more than 3 rounds? nywaw and Rusty 2
Chef Posted November 9, 2022 Author Posted November 9, 2022 Bow season is September through January with unlimited deer per day. There's no reason to buy a gun license. The only day that you can't bow hunt is Christmas. I haven't gun hunter since last century. Also a cross bow is a bow in NJ correct ? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk nywaw and Rusty 2
nywaw Posted November 9, 2022 Posted November 9, 2022 There are also REALLY long permit shotgun seasons in some zones with A LOT of antlerless tags (some are still unlimited tags while others were reduced to 9 or 5). Here's the summary of Firearms, Bows, and Ammunition Legal for Deer Hunting and the summary of Firearm Deer Seasons 2022-2023

I’m someone with a history of getting fishing and hunting regulations changed. That’s an area I’ve been active in for a long time. I have always had our Directors’ cell phones and enjoy a close working relationship with that agency. We bring in our Federation of Sportsman’s Clubs, NJ Outdoor Alliance, and individual hunters to help engage our Fish & Game Council to make changes. The exception is early fall Canada goose season. Those are non migratory geese targeted for big reductions in their numbers. Quick funny story: I was grouse and woodcock hunting with a buddy on State Park land. A Park Ranger stopped us to check our licenses and “to make sure our guns were plugged”. We both had side by side shotguns. Rusty, Next Time and nywaw 3 "A sinking fly is closer to Hell" - Anonymous https://www.troutscapes.com https://nativefishcoalition.org/national-board
