Hunter’s Attitudes: NY vs NJ

I asked the same question on both of our sites:   If you promised to take a buddy hunting and then found out that there was a big buck running around would you keep your promise or go after the buck yourself?

  • 100% of the NY hunters said that relationships are more important than a deer.  Keep your promise and let him hunt.

  • 50% of the NJ hunters found a reason to break their promise and go after the deer themselves.

Spoiler Alert:   If you don’t want to know what happened then look away.

My buddy hunted my stand and killed this buck.

I've only been hunting for about 15yrs but have been fortunate enough to take out 3 new hunters over the years. 2 out of 3 were able to take a buck in their first season. We went state land that I'm familiar with, and the deer patterns there. Most of my hunts are on state land.  I offered them good spots, and let the hunter pick their poison. It's hunting, man versus beast, if they show up while someone is there....great for that hunter!!

Your buddy would be good friends with Jimmy Hoffa if this happened in Joy-zee.

Good job letting him hunt your stand though.... that's a nice buck for anyone!

So the take away is that only half the NJ hunters lied whereas 100% of the NY hunters lied?

My friend took this in half and hour on  my land . A  buck I had a a few out of range encounters, in a year I struggled to kill a buck . Good for him !

It’s deer hunting , a low ranking thing in your life . It’s a filler really something to do in the Fall ,and fill the freezer maybe get some bones for the pile .

I've taken a few members from the old site hunting. Never met them before taking them out.  2 have taken there first turkey, 1 his first deer. A deer he missed 6 times with his rifle, I told him to sit tight. I got off stand, hoped into my truck and headed to him. Walked as fast as I could to his spot, grabbed his rifle and handed him mine and hoofed it back out.  20 minutes later, the same buck came back out.  The seventh shot connected.  Wasn't a big deer, but a trophy to Aaron.

That's awesome and an amazing deer. And very generous of you.

I've hunted with a member here that wanted me to shoot a big buck he had on cam if it came out. I'd rather he got it next year with all the work he's put in.  Such a great guy. I just enjoy BSing and getting out to hunt with him. Doesn't matter what we get, that's just a bonus.

And on my hunting spot my biggest mission all season was to get my buddy on a deer even if I got skunked.

Things are more important than a deer. Especially this year for me.
