Since my original thread was locked due to a site issue that Matt was looking into I figured I'd start another one.

Tapped 450 trees today.  Lots of lines were damaged during the off season from limbs and trees falling.  We'll put out the collection tanks tomorrow after cleaning them. Saturday we'll clean the storage tanks and evaporator.  Should be a great week for sap to run.  By the time we got done the sap was coming out pretty good from the end of the mainline.  Lots of nasty stuff in the lines from sitting all summer and fall, so we usually let it run on the ground for a few hrs to flush out the lines.

Awesome! Post more pics as you start cooking.

I have an old guy neighbor who does it. Sometimes I'll go visit him while he's cooking, and he'll take a ladel off the top for me. I'll sit and drink it while we lie to each other about hunting and fishing.

It's a crap load of work, but a lot of fun. I'm hopeful we'll be boiling Tuesday.

Wish i knew more about tapping  have 35 acres  of hard maple..

Lots of info on YouTube.  You don't need to go all out.  Start small, but it's addicting.

I admire those who do these things ! It doesn’t seem that difficult,my one friend does it on his two acre lot in Penfield , my high school friend and financial advisor ,who works a ton of hours , does it on his land in Rush . He has a sweet building there where he stores his car collection, and does some gentleman farming stuff .

That's how I started.

Very nice!  I made 6.5 gallons the other day at my archery club over an open fire….all on metal buckets…they give the woods a nice nostalgic feel!  I will be putting on a demo in a few weeks, complete with a pancake breakfast for our members, family, and friends. This time it will be closed to the public…if it works out it will be open to the public next year.  If you attend our upcoming shoot, you can get a peek at the operation!
