Jsin
So this question is for guys and gals with private land ( no offense to public land peeps.) Do you gut your deer where it lays or do you bring it to a specific location to not draw in the scavenger types. My recent buck was gutted and left in a major transition area on my property ( minor downturn in camera activity since.) In the past I know a gut pile is usually gone with in a few days. I don’t know if it really matters, just thought I would throw it out there.
biggamefish
Never seen it make a difference. Watched deer walk by gut piles and never give it a second look. So to answer the question gut it where it lies. Edited November 13, 2022 by biggamefish cervidchasers, mowin, TACC and 2 others 2
Moho81
Gut it where it’s convenient. Sometimes that means not gutting it in the woods but I would hesitate to gut it next to my stand then continue to hunt the stand. paula
They will eat the corn out of it, so it does not bother them Jsin and Rusty 1

Otto
My wife just asked me today when I shoot a deer, that I gut it and leave the pile in an area we can see from the house. That happened two years ago and she loved watching all the different birds and critters on it for a week or more. Within 2 hours there was a bald eagle on it. Bolt Action
Depends on circumstances. Today I dragged it nearly a mile and gutted it by the truck. Didn't want to drag it through the mud that far with the belly open. GroanALot, cervidchasers, Bucksnbows and 1 other
G-man
Have one stand 5 deer were shot out of it in 3 days.. aĺl the gutpiles were less than 50 yards from it.. wierd to see from the stand but deer dont care amd have actuall been seen eating stomach contents let alone munching on dead deer carcasses
Bucksnbows
This thread reminds me to toss a trail cam in my bag for Saturday rifle opener to put over my gut pile if I score. I gut where they lay. solon
gut wherever they die and i do mostly hunt private property
Bucksnbows
Another way to look at this is that deer are accustomed to walking past areas where maybe a pack of coyotes took down an adult deer or a bear killed and ate a fawn in spring, etc. The remaining deer simply go about their business of survival and give it no further thought. crappyice
We pull it to a front field just cause we don't want the coyotes romping around back where the deer are left alone
