Bucksnbows Posted May 24, 2023 Posted May 24, 2023 Did some slumming in PA today on a high quality stream in the Poconos. We only had a couple hours to fish as it was also a tour of areas in need of restoration. I will be taking down a 7’ high dam on this river later this summer, and the client is already planning for other restoration once that project is done. All were caught on either a dry fly (sulphurs) or the dropper (silver tungsten beadhead pheasant tails) with most on the dropper. This was my first trifecta in a few years, so that made it fun. And for my friend, @Rusty, I added some pictures…. Robhuntandfish Posted May 24, 2023 Posted May 24, 2023 Good sized brookies! Nice "it's pointless for humans to paint scenes of nature when they can go outside and stand in it"- Ron Swanson

We will be removing a 7’ high dam a short distance upstream later this year which will help the brookies downstream in time. mowin Posted May 25, 2023 Posted May 25, 2023 @Bucksnbows. You do these restorations in conjunction with TU? Asking because a client of mine has a stream running through his property, and a few yrs ago TU was going to replace a bridge that is part of his driveway for free. They planned on widening the stream or straighten out that spot. He initially agreed, but he had a major project going on that yr, and it would have delayed it longer than he was willing to agree to. Wonder if your company was scheduled to do the work?

I bring a lot of clients to the NRCS which is a federal agency that oversees Farm Bill conservation funds to do some restoration work. TU chapters and national staff all bring us projects. We have done and continue to do projects for TU in NJ and CT heavily. Our clients vary from private pay to government agencies to Farm Bill funds, to many other grant funded orgs., to mitigation banks, and others. They can be farmers, fishing clubs, watershed organizations , town/county/state/federal landowners, wealthy individual landowners, orgs like Trout Unlimited, etc. mowin 1 "A sinking fly is closer to Hell" - Anonymous https://www.troutscapes.com https://nativefishcoalition.org/national-board

I'm not sure who told him, TU or the contractor, that the entire project would only delay his project by 2 weeks. He asked a few contractors if the 2 weeks was realistic, and everyone said impossible, more like 2 months. That's why he bailed on the TU project. Bucksnbows 1

Hard to know the project, but I’m speculating his bridge was a problem for fish passage which is why TU was involved. Like maybe it created a perched culvert on the downstream side.
