Johnl48 Posted September 16, 2023 Posted September 16, 2023 I fabricated a winch holder in the back of my pickup for loading a deer. Going to make a simple wood ramp that sits on the gate. Was planning on using the trailer plug for a power source but read it wouldn't be strong enough, but that was for a trailer winch for cars....should lift a deer...we'll see Red, Robhuntandfish, ATbuckhunter and 4 others 7
nywaw Posted September 16, 2023 Posted September 16, 2023 A winch definitely makes life easier! Another useful way to do it if you bring a rope and have a tree to tie off to: BowmanMike, PraiseDiana, Johnl48 and 3 others 6
Jeremy K Posted September 16, 2023 Posted September 16, 2023 I made this a couple years ago. It hinges so you can fold it to the ground ,ratchet strap the deer in then just lift it up and put the pin back in. I used it once on a doe and it was super easy. The best part was calling my buddies shop to ask him about putting a hitch on a cavalier and he said " you're phone sucks ,it's sounds like you said you wanted a trailer hitch on a cavalier " LoL Red, Meatball, 2BuckBizCT and 7 others 2 8
mowin Posted September 16, 2023 Posted September 16, 2023 I've got one of those lifts that fit in the hitch and has a boat winch. Works great.

Bolt Action Posted September 17, 2023 Posted September 17, 2023 I'm actually getting rid of the tray I made a few years back. Works great to slide deer up and in, but no longer need it now that I have the atv. nywaw 1
Wolc123 Posted September 17, 2023 Posted September 17, 2023 I think I paid $ 39 for this cargo carrier from Harbor Freight. It has worked very well for deer up to 183 pounds field-dressed. It’s nice and low, so usually pretty easy to get them in it, even without any help: There might be a fat doe coming home on it tomorrow, from my parents place. Red 1
BowmanMike Posted September 17, 2023 Posted September 17, 2023 Or you could just get yourself a come along...I slide the deer up a plank or a piece of plywood and lift it in when I can't push the deer further..

Jeremy K Posted September 17, 2023 Posted September 17, 2023 I was in a pinch once and ended up building a pyramid out of 4 snowtires on rims I was selling to a guy later that day LoL. I never got the blood off before selling them. He was cool with it because he also was a hunter. dbHunterNY 1

Definitely need a straight pull with a perfectly neutral deer laying on the plywood to get that physics to work out right.

I've actually used a jet sled and lifted the front edge up onto the tailgate, then lifted the other end and slid it into the truck. You just have to remember to strap down the deer, lol..
