Deer butchers in southern Sullivan or Orange Counties?

As of a few years ago, those of us living in NJ and hunting out of state can no longer bring in whole deer due to the fear of spreading CWD.  That means we have to either remove the brains and spine before transport over state lines or use a NY butcher.  Two years ago, I quartered my buck up and removed all vestiges of spine and brain and brought my deer home to finish butcher.  But I don't have the time I once had and would like to find a butcher not far from the northwest NJ border with NY.  Specialty is nice, but not essential as I can do that myself or use a local butcher for my NJ deer I may shoot this fall and winter.  Any help is greatly appreciated!

Also, if you know a decent butcher in Otsego County, I'd love to hear about that as well.  I will be up the next two weekends for bow hunting, and if I connect this weekend, I would leave it up there to be butchered and pick it up a few days later when I'm back again.

Thanks - Brian/BandB

I was going to suggest Quaker Creek as well for Orange County.  For Sullivan  I have used Krantz Butcher Shop in Callicoon as well, phone number 845-482-5784 very clean shop, and friendly staff.  Incase suggested,  Desertos is permanently closed out of Fair Oaks, NY.  Also, for whatever it’s worth, I saw a sign recently at the intersection of 211 & 209 that says “deer cutting”.  I pass it daily….

They opened back up. Original owners wife got sick and they sold to the gentleman who owns True Life Taxidermy. As of October 1 they are back up and running.

another option is Roger’s deer cutting in stony point NY

We’ve used Don’s Meats in Laurens, NY. They do a great job.

I used to drive past Decker’s Deer Cutting in Roscoe. Haven’t driven that way in a while- not sure if they’re still open.

Virgil, does Don's offer vacuum sealing? I used him one time on a beef cow and at that time he didn't offer it. That was close to 15 years ago though.

Brian, here's another option.   https://deerprocessingny.com/

There's also the Farmers Place in South Edmeston.

Wow... I didn't think cutting up a deer was that expensive...

Agreed. A regular cut around NJ is $100 to $115. I pay less because I’m a long time, loyal customer to my deer guy. But he can’t take whole NY deer.

It's gotten to be too expensive.  We pay around $200 on Long Island for basic processing- any specialties or sausage costs additional.  I'm planning to cut my own since i use a lot of grind for sausage and do a lot of stew and jerkey also.

Wow, that’s nuts!  My buddy is my butcher and he only works 6 months of the year during NJ’s deer season. He processes 3,000 + deer each year. His basic cut is now $100. Specialty is more of course. He works like a dog for half a year and fishes the other half.

After checking on the leads provided here, I'm leaning towards Deersertos Butcher near Middletown, NY.  My goal is not to have to drive all the way back to camp several days later to pick up my deer, and Middletown isn't too bad a ride for me.  Also, I can just stay on route 17 on my ride home and drop it off easy enough.

I must say the prices you are charged in NY leaves me scratching my head.  Do they toss in a side of beef for those prices??  What am I missing?  One guy wants $165 for a regular cut and the meat must already be boneless.  Seriously?  If the meat is down to no bones, I'm just going to finish the job myself and not bother a butcher.  I won't ever complain again about paying $100 in NJ for a regular cut.  And my guy is fully inspected unlike 99% of deer processors, at least here in the Garden State.  But many thanks to all who helped out.  If I shoot one this coming weekend, I can leave it up there for a local butcher and pick it up the following Thursday when I run back up for a second consecutive weekend.

There is a nice Mexican spot within two minutes of Deersortos called Dos Amigos if you get hungry.

Quaker Creek has always been expensive but they produce a top notch product. I had my brothers bear done there last year (jerky was awesome). I've seen whole deer brought there but I do no what the website says.

At Deersortos like someone else said there are new owners this year. Very expensive it seems not sure of the quality compared to the previous owners.
