Gift card from the GF and a clearance sale at Bucks and Bolts = a new deer drag.

My father in law has one of those at his place up in the Adirondacks.  I never used it to drag out a deer (his tractor or atv always get that job). Exactly one year ago today, I used it for ice fishing.  It made a pretty good wind-break.

There was no good ice up there this winter.  Hopefully, I’ll get to use it to drag a bear out of the swamp this October.

We are planning to use it behind the 4 wheeler. But also as a drag in the woods to the trails.

Rob, sorry to inform you that is AN ICE FISHING SLED, so you will need to take up ice fishing!!

It would have to be a boat on this lake.  Whitecaps out there.  I'd be better off putting a trolling motor on it.

  • 3 weeks later...

Got a lot more outside time in today than I thought I would.  Managed to replaced the back storm door, cleaned out the shed, a walk with Charlie and even got to the shooting range to be sure the swamp rifle is on!

Got about 75% of the frost seeding done this afternoon.  Pine, Opener, wayback, waypoint and point all done.  Three more areas to do and some help from mother nature hopefully.  Saw this deer in the trail that looked at me like "not this guy again...".  Great to be outside on a beautiful afternoon.

Got out after work and finished the frost seeding. Put clover down along apple trail, wayback cut, the field edge, CSS trail, old pond trail and lawn.

Also saw two BIG bodied deer by CSS stand.

Did some scouting in an area Corey has been thinking about a stand and found a whole lot of deer sign and lucky enough there is one tree there big enough for a stand.  Gonna have to try to get one in there before season. Although this is gonna be a tough one to get into clean.  So thinking we make a pact to hunt it once each.  Lol. Which is kinda cool.

Also have some ideas for a stand change at lawn.

Good afternoon out in the field. I enjoy all this as much as hunting I think.  Even have some areas we frost seeded last year starting to green up....

We decided this weekend we are going to put up a new stand.. but with a twist.  This location is right into borderline bedding area.  So we are going to put it up with the restriction that both of us can only hunt it once all season.  It should be interesting to see if we can pick the right day of the season to hunt it.  Access isn't too bad and there's a ton of deer sign.  It's gonna all be tight 20-25 yard shots.  We named it "The One".  Since we are only each hunting it once and it is the only tree in that area big enough to have a 17ft stand.  We decided that if anyone tagged a buck before they hunted this stand they forfeit their sit there to the other. Should be interesting and fun and never know might tag a big one out of it.

Its a treestand you wouldnt like it .

my 2022 notes indicate that I was in a treestand for 16 out of 27 sits. So 59%. Slightly skewed since I tagged out with 2 bucks in NY and hunted CT only in December which was 5 sits in a treestand for a late rally.

I wasn't able to keep track in real time as you were MIA.

But wow. That's a lot of Tree time for you,  #fromtheground.  And you tagged out with 2 bucks bout time you saw the light.  #ihategroundblinds.

You had a great year!  I haven't tagged two in a long time.

i rarely ever used a ground blind. We have one that we use a few times per year that's it. Otherwise on the ground means on a rock, against a tree, etc. Being mobile is great- it allowed me to shoot my shotgun buck spot & stalk this year too.
